In line with the country’s economic blueprint (ZIMASSET) Zimbabwe Agenda for sustainable economic transformation. the Braille department in the Bulawayo public library has launched a programme that will seek to benefit the visually impared in the country.  this comes at a time when many concerns have been raised regarding the passing of information to the people who are visually impared,

Earlier this year vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa attended the constitution hearing in the city of Bulawayo and one student stood and asked that he is visual impared and has never got hold of Braille constitution. This raised concerns to many people who attended this consultation meetings. the programme seeks to pass information from all the people who are visually impared in every sphere economically, socially and politically.

Speaking at the conference the minister of state for provincial affairs for Harare Province Miriam Chikukwa she highlighted the importance of this programme to empower the visually impared in the country. Sulumani chimbethu the son of the late Simon Chimbethu and Clarence Gurura were appointed as the ambassadors of Godwill.

Many people in the country who are visually impared have faced many challenges in the access to information, as  seen in some schools children who are visually impared being isolated. Libraries will focus on giving the visually impared people information that they can also contribute in the passing of information like in the country’s economic blueprint ZIMASSET and also fully understanding the constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Minister chikukwa went on to say ” the cause of poverty in many developing countries has resulted due to the lack of information hence the need for everyone in the country to be well informed regardless of disability” she also showed her gratitude to Sulumani Chimbetu and Clarence Gurura for accepting the role of being the ambassadors of such and initiative.
