Bulawayo Power Boat Club

At lower Ncema Dam (left at 52km peg on Byo-Jhb rd, sign posted) Offers fantastic picnic, camping facilities with clean/maintained ablutions. Full Bar, DSTV. Kids “Jungle-Jetty”

Centenary and Central Parks
Cnr Leopold Takawira Ave/Park road. There is a Roller Skating facility for the children and a large Children’s Playground. There is also a Fountain of Historic Interest.

Hillside Dams
Banff Road, Hillside. A nature reserve and bird sanctuary with picturesque walks, picnic areas, and restaurant-open Tuesdays to Sundays. This historical area includes many important sites namely, rock paintings, one of Lobhengula Humalog’s villages, the first water reservoirs for Bulawayo and many other sites of National significance. The broken granite kopjes, intact indigenous vegetation and the birdlife make this a popular recreation venue.

Museum of Natural History in Centenary Park
Leopold Takawira Ave/Park Road. This museum contains superb and unique displays with exhibits illustrating and history, mineral, wealth and wildlife of Zimbabe, including the second largest mounted elephant in the world. Open daily (expect Good Friday and Christmas Day) from 9am to 5pm

Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre and Bulawayo
Home industries centre, Mzilikazi Square, off the Old Falls Road from Masotsha Ndlovu Ave.
A pottery and sculpture centre with drawing and painting studios. Batiks and embroidery work are made and sold there. It is open from Mondays to Fridays, between 8.30am and 4pm, closed lunch hours. The route is sign-posted.

Railway Museum
Prospect Ave, off J Chinamamo Road, Raylton
Many obsolete steam locomotives, rolling stock and station buildings with a variety of other exhibits dating to the earliest days of railway history. Open from Tuesdays to Sundays, closed on Mondays and Public Holidays.

Outside the city
Matobo National Park, Matopos
One of Zimbabwe’s major tourist attractions, it is a UNESCO world heritage site. The park contains amazing rock formations and painted caves. It is a Game Park with many varieties of animals and a prolific amount of Birdlife, containing the world’s largest concentration of Black Eagles. Animals included Sable, Impala, White Rhino, Wildebeest and Leopard. Cecil John Rhodes’ tomb amongst others can also be seen on the hill Malindidzimu” or “View of the World”

Tshabalala Sanctuary,

Matopos road-10km from City Centre.
It contains a varied selection of animals, including giraffe, kudu, zebra, and impala and many species of wild birds. Operated by National Parks and cycling through the Park is permitted.

Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage and Research Centre.
Situated on the main Gwanda road, 23km east of Bulawayo.
Chipangali provides a home for orphaned, sick and abandoned wild animals. It has an Educational Centre and large collection of birds.

Khami ruins.
Go west on 13th Ave through the Industrial Area.
A Unesco World Heritage Site, situated 22km west of Bulawayo, the ruins consist of series of terraces and passages supported by massive granite walls, some overlooking Khami Dam and George. Building in stone began in this area over 500years ago. A small museum displays relics found at the site over 100 000years ago.

Mpopoma Dam and National park, Matopos

A spot teaming with Hippos, Rhinos and a great variety of wildlife. Fishing is allowed although boats are not. Picnic spots available.
