All is set for the biggest team in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to host awards and honour their players who performed well in this season of the Premier soccer league. The awards are set to be at Bulawayo Polythenic school of Hospitality.

Football legends are set to grace the occasion from, 23 local clubs and other guest coming as far as South Africa. The 90th celebrations will be graced by retired football legends who have had an impact in the building of the Highlanders name, these include Edward Dzowa, Jefrey Mpofu, Andrew Jele, Chris Mhlanga, Ernest Sibanda.

former Highlanders and Zimbabwe Warriors striker Peter Ndlovu was set to attend the celebrations but he is on duty with his side Mamelodi Sundows playing in Japan, Addressing Journalists one of the Highlanders legends who made a great impact for the team Lofty Phiri outlined the importance of this event and legends being part of it to inspire greatness to the young boys in the squad.”we are coming as legends to inspire the youngsters and share our experiences with them , hopefully we will get the opportunity to talk with the boys”

Highlanders football club celebrates its 90th anniversary and will tonight give 15 awards to individuals who have played a part in the 2016 Premier soccer league season. Among these awards include the Top goal scorer, supporter of the year, player ‘s player of the year, captains award, outstanding new comer and player of the year,

Highlanders FC is a Zimbabwean football club based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe formed in 1926 that plays in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.It is one of the biggest, most successful soccer teams in Zimbabwe and arguably the most supported team. Everywhere it plays it attracts big crowds. It is also known colloquially as iBossolona or IBosso.

Founded in 1926 as Lions Football Club, composed mainly of boys born in Makokoba (Bulawayo’s oldest township) by two of the great Ndebele King Lobengula’s grandsons, Albert and Rhodes, who were sons of Njube. In 1936 – the players changed the name to Matebeleland Highlanders Football Club.

Highlanders are known by their nicknames,Bosso,Tshilamoya,Amahlolanyama,Ezikamagebhula,Mantengwane among many others.Bosso is derived from Setswana slang and means “The Boss.”Tshilamoya is IsiNdebele and,loosely interpreted,could mean “big-upsetters” or “demoralisers” a term coined in apparent reference to the Team’s nemesis.Amahlolanya is taken from the Grey-Crested Helmet-shrike,a bird found mostly in Southern parts of Zimbabwe whose black and white colours resemble those of the team’s.EzikaMagebhula,a nickname for Orlando Pirates FC,can also be used in reference to Highlanders FC possible because of the similarity of both clubs’ colours.
