More than 20 youth organisations have gathered together with one voice to spread equality amongsts women in the society. This comes at a time when the world is commemorating International Women’s day on the 8th of March 2017. This year celebrations run under the theme #BoldforChange. Youth organisations around Bulawayo and beyond have come together to advocate for equality for women in the society. They will be running a discussion on social media on the 8th of March raising their voices on the state of Women in the world.

These organisations will be speaking out, educating and advocating for women’s rights. The hastag for this twitterthon that will run between 11am -2pm on the 8th of March will be #BeBoldForChange #IWD2017 #Women’sRights.

Some of the Organisations taking part in this Twitterthon include Youth for innovation Trust, Activistazw. Yield, Dotyouth,Youth Ahead,Cydt, amongst others.

Last year, organizations and individuals around the world supported the international women’s day and committed to help women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenge conscious and unconscious bias; call for gender-balanced leadership; value women and men’s contributions equally; and create inclusive flexible cultures. From awareness raising to concrete action, organizations engaged their people to support  and  help forge gender parity on International Women’s Day (IWD) and beyond.

But the World Economic Forum predicts the gender gap is still a long way to go in terms of achieving equality in 2186. This is too long to wait. Around the world, IWD can be an important catalyst and vehicle for driving greater change for women and moving closer to gender parity.
