The multi-lingual rapper, HD, who is making a name for himself in the country, was in the city and gave us a few minutes of his time

• : Tell us about yourself. Your history and growing up?
– HD : Born here in Bulawayo, spent most of my childhood here and then moved to Masvingo. I’ve always had an interest in music ever since I was little, started playing drums at grade 6, guitar at form 1. Rap took over when I was in form 2 and I haven’t looked back since. Growing up in a Christian family helped me not to indulge in a lot of peer influenced activities that most of our young generation are exposed to. My music is an expression of how I grew up. I paint pictures (literally sometimes) with my music shedding light on some of the things people/ I go through on a day to day basis.
• : You mentioned having had a Christian upbringing, what influenced you getting into rap?
– HD Howard: I came across Christian rappers like Lacrae and DaTruth who inspired me to start rapping at an early age
• : Would you consider one day doing Christian rap?
– HD Howard: I actually have no problem with it. I actually have a couple of gospel tracks
• How did your family react to you rapping?
HD Howard: Parents weren’t supportive at first till they started hearing outside comments from people supporting my music, that’s when they came along
• How long have you been doing this ?
– HD Howard: For the past 6 years
• What inspired the stage name HD? And wat does it mean?
– HD Howard: Got it way back in primary. My name is Howard so I squeezed in the first n last letter
• : I noticed on your Facebook page that you highlight tracks that you have just released, how have the people received your music?
– HD Howard: Well judging from the responses at the shows I can safely say yes there is a lot of positivity lol

– HD Howard: I’ve done a track with Maskiri, staged shows with Bashupi, Shinso, Prayersoul, King Shaddy, Trevor Dongo
