My Bulawayo had the chance to sit down with the man making waves in the broadcasting industry, entertainment industry, Arthur C Evans. My Bulawayo (MB) and Arthur C Evans (ACE)

MB.”There is only one Ace in the pack”  what inspired this statement

ACE.Purpose did – everyone has a purpose and it is unique to them and it is up to each person to discover their purpose and make the most of it and not copy other. An ACE is an expert of a trade (thankfully my initials are ‘ACE’) and the pack referred to is the packs (like a wolf pack that are ruthless even to themselves) of people in the world. Thus you must aspire to be the expert of your purpose amongst the multitudes of people (packs) in this world. I am pursuing that and that is why I generally conclude my presentations by saying, “There are many cards in the pack but there’s only one A.C.E. (Arthur C. Evans) in the pack!”

MB.Tell us about your education background

ACE.Studied retail management, project management, business leadership and I want to pursue an MBA in business leadership next year.

MB.When did you fall in love with media

ACE.My sister (Lucia) and I always used to act out scenes as children although she was more progressive than me as I was more focused on sports. That was the foundation and this current dance began when I was 20 years old.

MB.Tell us about your love for communication

ACE.This is an intrinsic thing that God has blessed me with. I have never trained formally but I find myself functioning with great wisdom. I augment this wisdom by watching and learning from other presenters as well as reading about my craft. Most importantly I always want to communicate a positive message and be a catalyst for positive change to my audiences so even though I may add humour to my presentations I always ensure that there are some nuggets that I deposit for people to pick up.

MB.Describe yourself in Three words

ACE.Sincere

Passionate

Hard working

MB.What inspires you

ACE.I am my biggest critic before I am my biggest fan. My mother once told me before an athletics day (I was a very good athlete) when I asked her how many trophies I should win for her, that she didn’t want me to win trophies but she wanted me to try MY BEST. If my best came with trophies then so be it. She taught me that you cant compete against other people all the time but instead you should start with yourself. There is nothing worse than failing and genuinely knowing that you could have done more.

MB.What would people be surprised to know about Arthur C Evans

ACE.I used to be an introvert and I still like quiet moments alone from time to time – without alone time I struggle to function at my best.

MB.How has been your journey so far as a media personality

ACE.It has been hard but through the struggles I have created amazing memories from street launches starting at City Hall, hosting an Idols SA concert, to hosting charitable events to the one on one meetings with people that have come to me for advice. I am grateful for all the support that I get and even though I may be called a personality or celebrity I am still that guy walking in purpose. The only difference between me and the person reading this is that my work, my grind, my purpose is public for the public.

MB.Tell us briefly about The Arthur Evans show

ACE.This is a record breaking show. The first Bulawayo production to make it onto the DSTV platform and in terms of impact and reach, the biggest that Zimbabwe has made. It is an aspirational talk show that mirrors my character – I am fun, I can be serious but I always try to inspire positive change. So you get all this in one talk show which you will not find anywhere.

MB.What can the viewers of Zambezi magic expect come November the 5th

ACE.Viewers will be struck by the quality of the production, the amazing set and the incredible guests that I had the privilege of interviewing. After November 5th, people will be talking about it and anxious to see the second episode.

MB.Who are the some of the people who will be part of your show?

ACE.Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, Maps Maponyane, Ammara Brown, Otis Fraser, Jeys Marabini, Soul Fellaz, Cynthia Mare, Carl Joshua Ncube and many more from Zimbabwe and across its borders

MB.How long did it take to come up with such a wonderful show

ACE.All in all from concept, pilot to final production just over 12 months of commitment and hard work.

MB.How is the media in Zimbabwe, any money in Zimbabwe

ACE.Like general remuneration for skilled jobs the media does not pay that well. There is also a distinct lack of appreciation except from larger corporates of the value a popular brand or particular media skillset can offer to an event or production. Thus remuneration is not standard and so I am glad to say that I do not compromise on quality and whether it’s a pro bono event or not I will always give my best. With Zim digital coming it should spark local producers to life but the government through its relevant ministry must endeavor to pay equitable amounts to production houses and companies just need to assess the value of STRATEGICALLY using media brands e.g. Soon I hope to sign some endorsement deals which will benefits companies due to the brand association.

MB.What can you say to the aspiring young lady or man who wants to follow your footsteps

ACE.If you want fame, don’t do it! Fame is relative and it is not always satisfying. If you believe that you want to do this as a calling then you are heading in the right direction. Things don’t always happen overnight and even if they do, set a high standard for yourself and put others first.

MB.What are some of the challenges you have faced in coming up with The Arthur Evans show

ACE.The biggest challenge was the financial resources needed to produce a high quality production.

Handling multiple responsibilities at work and the production meant many a late night

MB.What would you like to say to people who have followed your work

ACE.Thank you thank you thank you – I am going to make you proud because I do not take every like, every follower and every comment for granted.

MB. Thank you for you time ” the only ACE in the pack ” all the best in your show, will be definatekly glued to my set to see the record breaking show

ACE. thank you
