” The Earth without art is just ‘eh” so goes the old English adage.

The Bulawayo National Art Gallery will soon get $42 000 boost from the United States . This comes at a time when there is a need to document and preserve the Ndebele Art and Culture.  According to the counselor of public affairs at United States embassy David McGuire ” the ambassador’s fund for culture and art preservation will give Bulawayo National art gallery a sum of $42 155.”

He went on to express how the Art and culture is diminishing in the country and hence effect on the upcoming younger generation. “these art forms are disappearing in the country as the numbers of organisations which promote art are getting smaller. We want future generations and scholars to know how the art work was formed and where it came from ,” said McGuire in a statement.

The fund will go a long way to promote art in Zimbabwe. Many youths are not aware what art and culture means to the country. The cash injected will go a long way to preserve the internal and external art. Every year, the  Embassy in Harare accepts proposals from   organisations and government departments,  historical monuments that can display  the t  experience and capacity to undertake bigger  projects in order to conserve and keep the culture and art for future generations.

Many artists from Bulawayo expressed their concerns as a good way of keeping the culture intact for the next coming generations. Speaking to the managing director for Youths for innovation trust  (YIT) Thando Gwinji , where her organisation  is currently running the concept dabbed “reviving ubuntu amongst the youths through social innovation” she echoed her excitement on the initiative by the US Embassy to preserve art and culture ” it is necessary especially towards the 2018 elections , Art is something that brings people together yet it should be used innovatively to ensure sustainability inline with agenda 2063 of the African Union” .

She applauded the US Embassy for such a great platform for preserving culture in the society “preserving diversity is necessary for peace in 2018 and I beleive it starts with Arts and culture”
